Towards Sunset is a westernish uber that has notorious criminal, Jess Chambers – aka Hellrider – meeting the naive and innocent schoolteacher Martha America Gabrielle Brunson – aka Mattie. This is a fairly short fic but it is well written with no typos or other grammatical issues that I noticed. I’ve read plenty of Ms. Street’s work and I don’t think I’ve had any complaints yet.
I don’t want to say much about this story because I don’t want to ruin any of it for you but I did enjoy it. I needed a break from some heavier reading and this was just the short distraction I needed. Thanks to Della Street for another lighthearted happy ending. Like you didn’t see that part coming…
Trouble is what Gabrielle usually finds herself in when she and Xena separate for any reason and this story holds true to that. But this time it’s really not Gabby’s fault. Well, not totally. This story is more of a serious tale of what happens when Xena drops Gabrielle off in Potaidaia to help with her ailing mother. What they don’t count on is an old enemy showing up.
This story is what I would consider a short story but not nearly as short as Whipped. Sort of a medium short story. On my ereader, it comes out to 76 pages in the epub format. Not sure if that helps at all… Della Street has a good style and I don’t remember coming across anything, grammar or plot wise, that made me break stride. It’s a story that I’ll probably leave on my reader to enjoy again another time.
This short and funny piece has a war lord demanding Xena hand Gabrielle over. About a 5 minute read. I liked it. No reason my review should be longer than the story, so go read it.
