As promised, I’m going to share thoughts on all of my 2019 reads. Here’s book number one: Backwards to Oregon by Jae. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve read this book. It’s been reviewed here at least twice not counting this one and I’m 100% positive that I’ll read it several more times.
For anyone who missed the previous reviews, BtO is a historical romance featuring a couple who marry before knowing anything about each other and then travel the Oregon Trail to start a better life. They each have their reasons and their secrets but they learn to rely on – and love – each other before the end of the journey. There’s a lot more to it than that, of course, but that’s the gist of it.
In addition to the writing itself, this book continues to call to me because of the characters. Luke and Nora Hamilton are my favorite romance coupling of all time. They work so well together, both in BtO and in the sequel, Hidden Truths, which mostly focuses on their daughter, Amy.
This is one book that I will always be happy to talk about and I highly recommend it to any lovers of historical romance. Jae is impeccable in her research and is the master of “show, don’t tell.”
I wanted to start 2019’s reading off with a book that wouldn’t disappoint. I couldn’t think of a better fit than this one.
