Elena Undone by Nicole Conn

Elena UndoneElena is a mother existing in an unhappy marriage to a minister whose congregation’s latest crusade is an anti-gay one. Peyton is a lesbian writer who has recently lost her mom and her long term partner. Both women are emotionally alone and click immediately once they meet. There’s plenty of drama going on for the both of them and they quickly find that their friendship is what gets them through the tough times. Until that friendship deepens. Then things start moving pretty quickly.

I watched the movie a several months ago and enjoyed it. I finished the book today and then watched the movie again tonight and got more out of the film because of the background and more in depth knowledge of Elena and Peyton’s relationship.

The book had a few issues – loads of missing commas which messed up the flow for me (one of my quirks) and one instance of Elena’s name being used when it should have been Peyton’s – but they were pretty easy to overlook. I felt the story dragged in a few places and maybe went on a bit too much in others but, overall, if you liked the movie before reading the book, it will only enhance your experience.
